I had Roxio Creator 9 & 2009 on my PC. I used the 'Add/Remove Programs' to remove Creator 9. I did not manually fix the registry before I rebooted, I got the BSOD. The PC would not boot in Safe Mode. I could not access Regedit to fix it. I used the Dell Recovery Disk (Reinstall, Repair - XP SP2) to perform a repair.
I encountered two major issues while attempting to perform an XP Repair. The first was the repeated request for the file 'asms'. The program would not recognize the CD ROM. Since I knew that my files were good, I entered 'C:I386' each time a file was requested. It permitted me to move on to load drivers. I encountered the second problem when the driver load was about 3/4 complete. Another file was requested but the mouse and keyboard were frozen (See 'Win XP Repair USB Keyboard Problem' post by 'buff nasty'. I pulled out all USB plugs and, since my mouse was plugged into the keyboard, I tried plugging the keyboard into various USB ports. After trying the front ports (no power), I found a port on the back that retained power and the keyboard/mouse reactivated. I was able to complete the repair. Although IE8 was replaced by IE6 and other Windows updates need to be completed, the repair did work. I have not tried to run Roxio 2009 yet.
